The history of the Estela Golf Course, designed by the architect Duarte Sotto-Mayor, is closely linked to the Estela Golf Club.
Founded on October 27, 1987, the Estela Golf Club was the realization of a dream for many golfers and enthusiasts, fundamentally interpreted by a group of industrialists from the north of the country who aspired to bring the practice of golf to a region lacking facilities for this purpose.
At the time, the leader of the initiative, and its first President, Adalberto Neiva de Oliveira, together with Jorge Quintas, Alberto Quintas Mendes and the collaboration of Bernardino Leite de Faria and others, with special mention for the unforgettable support of the great industrial and philanthropist from Póvoa de Varzim, Nelson Quintas, managed, despite various setbacks and misunderstandings, to make the Club come to animate the Estela Golf Course.
Subsequently, in 1997, those founders, together with António Falcão and Amadeu Ferreira, bought from Sopete, S.A. a majority stake that was equally divided among all Club members who wished to join, thus emerging Estela Golf, S.A.
Years later, for various reasons, including renovation work and coastal erosion control, there was an increase in capital, leading to the amendment of the Statutes which led to majority ownership, interpreted today by Estela Golf - Atividades Desportivas e Turísticas, S.A. under the Presidency of the member, Jorge Nelson Ferreira de Aguiar Quintas.
The Estela Golf Club, currently presided over again by the founding member, Adalberto Neiva de Oliveira, has over time been host to several national and international competitions of recognized prestige.
From the national calendar, all the competitions of the Portuguese Golf Federation stand out, the Atlantic Open Vinho Verde in 1990, the Portuguese Open in 1991, the Golf Gala in 1994, the XIII European Seniors Championship in 1994, the European Club Cup Trophy Men, in 2010.
Meanwhile, the Estela Golf Club has planned trials of interest and importance, such as the National Interclub Championship, and continues its continuous affirmation in order to attract new tournaments, more practitioners, with special emphasis on the training of young people.
It is also worth noting its dynamic integration into the Iberian landscape, especially with the peripheral clubs of Galicia and León, and its growing trend to attract more and more golfers from other countries, especially European

Consisting of a links, with 62 hectares of area in an extension of about 3.5 km, the comfort and beauty of its Club House, with a traditional and authentic cuisine of its restoration, captivates its countless visitors who, only in the year 2018, exceeded ten thousand.

Distinctions have also been plentiful in its history. In 2003 and 2009, it was named Club of the Year by the Portuguese Golf Federation, receiving the Visconde Pereira Machado Trophy.
The ethics and principles underlying the good practice of golf have always been present throughout its history, and the rules of golf continue to be observed to this day.
